High Haven is an open world campaign setting designed for Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition. This book contains everything you need to know about the setting to begin your own adventures in this post apocalyptic fantasy world full of secrets and danger.
The world in which the city of High Haven is found has been ravaged by uncontrolled magic and demonic forces.
Only within the walls of the city, high atop a magical mesa, are the people of High Haven safe from the horrors that have laid waste to the surrounding country.
High Haven was once a great metropolitan port city aside an inland sea, a hub of trade in a bygone era. When the Breaking befell the world and the rifts were opened, those who survived the initial onslaught sought shelter behind its walls.
The city quickly grew, and became the last bastion of defence for those who once called this land their home. They built out its defences with both mundane and magical means, building the city as it is today, high upon a magically created bluff three thousand feet above the wilderness below.
In the beginning, when High Haven was founded, the populace pulled together to create a fair and utopian society to at first survive, and then prosper in this new world. Attacks still came, but it was only when a Greater Evil led a Legion that High Haven was truly in danger.
Over generations however, the society of High Haven has fallen far from its initial lofty ideals. Now the limited resources of the city state are unfairly distributed amongst the populace, and its once democratic political structure has become theocratic with the rise in power of the worshippers of Oyud, known as the One True God.
Now, the devout followers of the old gods are ostracised or persecuted as the theocracy tightens its grip on the city.
